—Apr 14— The only real drama in 72nd running of the Grade 2 Oaklawn Handicap involved the fourth place finisher, City of Light. The winner, Hronis Racing’s Accelerate, was never in doubt.
Acclerate broke alertly and, after pulling past Untrapped and Hedge Fund early, never looked back, drawing clear to a three length win.
City of Light, who entered the race after a devastating win in the Grade 1 Triple Bend Stakes at Santa Anita, looked like a horse that preferred a shorter distance. He didn’t fade down the stretch, he just appeared disinterested, running a dull fourth, despite finishing just a head behind Untrapped for third.
Hedge Fund (24/1) finished second.
